4th Week of Dec - 1st Week of Jan 2013

Home for the holiday (Dec 23-25) then back up to building site.  Area had a nice dusting of snow on Christmas, 2-3 inches in some areas east of Dallas.  Weather turned ugly and wet, so work slowed.  Back to Houston for New Years, then back up the 2nd.  Reg came up on Friday the 4th and stayed till Monday.  We took little trips around the area to unique little towns like Ben Wheeler and Edom.  Monday the 7th was a big day as we had to pour the entire foundation before a big rain predicted for Tues and Weds.  Weather man was right... filled the new pond.  Framers will be starting today the 11th.

Back after Christmas with a little white surprise

Finishing the foundation forms - for you engineers, the concrete beam continues around the perimeter of the house and sits on 12" 8 foot deep concrete piers and is 12" wide and 24" deep.  Thee interior piers are also 12" dia. and are 8 feet on the ground.

Starting the pour

Pretty cold on pour day

They use almost 100 cu yards of concrete, almost as much as used on a regular slab foundation

Here is what the foundation looks like today.  Had two inches of rain Tues and Wed, so I had to pump some water out of the interior.

Note the porch piers front and rear of the foundation beam.  The front ones have a 12x24 " rectangle pad on their top.  The rear ones are 12" dia and sit 4 feet deep.

Note first delivery of lumber.

 Barn is finished Too!

Here is the new pond with water..... wish I had have burned the wood before it rained..  It's probably 3-4 feet deep in middle.  There is a really good run off stream that passes through the property.  Reg wants me to float a few duck decoys :)
